Z-Guard Zinc Alloy Anodes have been developed to provide the highest possible current output combined with the most streamlined anode shape. This insures good protection and the minimum of drag on the vessels hull. When installing 'Z-Guard' Schemes to wooden or GRP Hulls please follow fitting instructions carefully and ensure that the correct Anode size is fitted. If in doubt contact us for further details. 

Below are the details of our schemes. They also form part of our instruction and fitting booklet for wooden and GRP vessels. Copies of this booklet which indicate the correct Anode type to use will be sent on request. Use only our standard equipment for installations to vessels of this type. Individual recommendations for vessels together with drawings can be provided if required. 

Shaft anodes are mounted on the shafts of small leisure vessels to protect the exposed steel prolonging the life of the shafts and propellers. Please contact us for more information on shaft anodes. 

GRP/Wooden Protection Schemes

SCHEME A: Single Screw, Short Shaft, Wooden Rudder

One Z-Guard Zinc Anode bonded internally to engine gearbox and inboard end of sterntube only. One Z-Guard Strip Anode fitted to rudder and bonded to metal straps. Steel rudders to be fitted with Z-Guard Zinc Strip Anodes as shown in Scheme B. Always use rubber backing pad beneath anode and correct fixing studs. Prop Dia: Up to 29" Anode:     1 x ZGS5R Prop Dia: 30" to 36" Anode:     1 x ZGS10R Prop Dia: 37" to 60" Anode:     1 x ZGS25R

SCHEME B: Single/Twin Screw, Long Shaft, Steel Rudder

One/two Z-Guard Zinc Anodes bonded internally to engine gearbox, inboard end of stern tube and 'A' brackets. Two Z-Guard Strip Anodes fitted back to back through steel rudder. Wooden rudders to be fitted as shown in Scheme A. Rubber backing pads and correct fixing studs must always be used.  Prop Dia: Up to 21" Anode:     1 x ZGS5R Prop Dia: 22" to 30" Anode:     1 x ZGS10R Prop Dia: 31" to 54" Anode:     1 x ZGS25R

SCHEME C: Single/Twin Screw, Long Shaft, Bronze or Copper Sheathed Rudder

Two Z-Guard Zinc Anodes bonded internally to engine gearbox, inboard end of stern tube, 'A' brackets and rubber stock. No Anodes fitted directly to rudder. Anode rubber backing pads and correct fixing studs only available from 'Z-Guard'  Zinc Anodes. Prop Dia: Up to 26" Anode:     1 x ZGS5R Prop Dia: 27" to 33" Anode:     1 x ZGS10R Prop Dia: 34" to 54" Anode:     1 x ZGS25R
